I was talking to a few college guys the other day about
their futures. That’s a topic I think about often. To a man, they said the same
thing: “I had so much before. I can’t see anything working out like that now.”
So, I told them about a devotion I just read.
Kangaroos
and emus, native to Australia, are featured on that nation’s “coat of arms.”
Both animals are amazingly strong and fast, however their leg structure doesn’t
allow them to go backward. They are part of the Australian coat of arms to
remind people that the nation is ever moving forward.
Paul said
the same thing in his letter to the Philippians. He wrote believers must forget
“those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are
ahead …” In other words, you can’t undo or redo the past, but by God’s grace
you can move forward.
That’s a
tough lesson to learn. I know it better than most. But faith requires us to
look forward. If a bunch of young inmates can buy that message, I can too. Now
I know why God created kangaroos and emus.
